Walking a tightrope: hidden issues, challenges and complexities surrounding the protection needs of unaccompanied minors from Albania living in the United Kingdom.

This event brought together speakers from a range of different disciplines to discuss the protection needs of young Albanian asylum seekers.

Morning session 1:
Introductory remarks from Elaine Chase (UCL becoming adult project), Rt Hon Baroness Butler-Sloss, Maurice Wren (Chief Executive, Refugee Council) and Enkeleida Tahiraj (Visiting Fellow at LSE).

Morning session 2:
Further perspectives from Kathryn Cronin (Garden Court Chambers) and Francesca Meloni (UCL becoming adult project), followed by a panel with questions from conference attendees.

Workshop on trafficking claims:
Contributions from Claire Brickell (senior research officer at the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner), Rachel Mullan-Feroze (service manager at Ashiana Sheffield), Mike Emberson (CEO of the Medaille Trust), Sarah Di Giglio (senior policy and project officer at IOM) and Robin Brierley (Director of West Midlands Anti-Slavery Network).

Afternoon plenary:
Summary of the afternoon workshops on trafficking, blood feuds, LGBT* claims, domestic violence and religion. Chaired by Elaine Chase.
